Truck Tracks Ruhr

By Haug / Begrich / Kaegi / Karrenbauer

The centerpiece of Truck Tracks Ruhr is a truck that changes our view of the Ruhr Region. The truck has been turned into a mobile audience room. One side is outfitted with a huge window that frames the view outside. 49 artists identify 49 locations and focus the gaze of the spectator on striking, unknown, animated, or remote points of the Ruhr region.
From April 2016 to March 2017, the truck will be on the road in seven cities of the Ruhr Region. In each city, seven places will be targeted, compiled as an album. Every seven weeks a new album will be presented to the public, with new tracks.

With a custom-made audiotrack the artists add a second layer to the location. For “five minutes of fame,” whatever happens in front of the window becomes a theater piece without actors, a live sound film or a ready-made picture for a radio play. Everything that takes place in front of the window becomes part of the performance.
The audience can experience this project in two ways:

Single Track: Intervention with Opening Hours
The truck remains at a fixed location for some hours and opens its doors every ten minutes to a spontaneous audience like a gallery or an art space. After a brief video trailer, the screen opens and the track begins. What had just been a normal street intersection now turns into a ready-made-piece behind the glass. Residents see their neighbourhood and their neighbours in new ways through the window. This first opportunity of experiencing the tracks is free of charge.

Album: Tour of Seven Tracks
In the evening, a tour begins at a central starting point. One after another, seven stops are made at the locations that compose an album. The screen opens and the city’s performance begins. After five minutes, the journey continues. Outside the city passes by as a road movie, forming a site-specific sound composition as if the Ruhr region were the scene of a film that played out directly behind the screen.
