First Saarbrücken Poetics Lectureship for Drama

By Helgard Haug / Stefan Kaegi / Daniel Wetzel
31.01. – 27.02.2012

This winter semester 2011/2012, Saarland University, together with the Saarländisches Staatstheater, the Landeshauptstadt Saarbrücken, the VHS Regionalverband Saarbrücken and the VSE AG in Saarbrücken, will become the first university in a German-speaking country to host a poetry lectureship dedicated exclusively to drama.

The first honorary lectureship has been awarded to Helgard Haug, Stefan Kaegi and Daniel Wetzel from the theatre collective Rimini Protokoll. They will give four public lectures in January and February 2012 in which they will reflect on and explain their concept and their poetics of drama and theatre.

As Saarland University writes on its homepage, the poetry lectureship seeks "to invite outstanding contemporary writers to reflect publicly on their writing, their ideas on literature, to elucidate on their future development, and to provide insights into their writing process". In inviting Rimini Protokoll, the series aims to explore a "broad contemporary notion of the dramatic". The poetry lectureship is also designed to inspire further discourse on the rich diversity of contemporary theatre forms in German-speaking countries.

The first three Rimini Protokoll events in this poetry professorship will be public evening lectures given in the Saarländisches Staatstheater; the fourth and final evening will take place in the Festsaal of the Saarbrücker Rathaus. Audiences are invited to participate in public discussions with Rimini Protokoll after the lectures. Entry is free.

As a result of these lectures,  Theater der Zeit publishing house publishes Volume 100 of the series Recherchen (in German language): Rimini Protokoll: ABCD. By Helgard Haug, Stefan Kaegi, Daniel Wetzel. Edited by Johannes Birgfeld

The lectures will be held from the 23rd of January 2012 on four Mondays in January and February at 8 pm. Film clips from Rimini Protokoll’s works will be shown from 7.30 pm.
