I AM A DOER NOT A TALKER

Name: Henrik Lindhjem
Age: 38
District: Nordre Aker
Nationality: Norwegian
I share a semi-detached house with my partner, two turtles and twenty five aquarium-fish.

I am a researcher and consultant within the field of environmental economics

I belong to the divers, the ones who have considered moving to an island, the city migrants, the ones who are disillusioned when it comes to charity aid, the realistic environmentalists, the ones who will reserve themselves instead of going all in, but I do not belong to the smokers, the super urban, the golf players, the ones who talk loud and for a long time, the pretentious or the ones who play guitar at after parties.

I live in Oslo because the most interesting jobs for me are here in the city – if I don’t move abroad for a few days. For a while I was considering that, but then the financial crisis became apparent and the idea of moving away wasn’t that easy anymore. USA and Canada seems tempting because the nature is even more exciting there. I also like Oslo because it is a place with green areas. I don’t use the cultural and more urban offerings of the city that much , but it is good to know that it is there. One of the more serious challenges for our city is the housing  issues – where shall we place all the people that move here? How shall we open up the areas – shall we build in the forests? Or shall we build higher? Maybe we need to look into using more of the space available in the city – like the apple-gardens surrounding the houses?

I can remember An Enemy of the People from two different occasions – we discussed it in high school, and then I saw it once in Beijing when I was part of a big environmental conference – and where it was used to illustrate environmental and nature issues. When hearing the quote «the strongest man in the world is the one standing the most alone» I think of the fact that the more emotionally attached you are to other people the more vulnerable you are. The more detached you are the less vulnerable.

I am quite good at the big choices in life, but I am not so good at the small choices.

For the performance I will travel with the tube from my work at Forskningsparken to the theatre.
